I could use some help getting on track to diagnosing a situation with the 18 h.p. Kohler engine on my model 1806. It seems to be temperamental and I have to run it with a little choke. Power is down somewhat. I am guessing that it is not getting enough fuel if I have to choke it. Any suggestions?

It could be a number of things. My guess is bad/stale gas or fowled plugs. I'd start out by blowing out the air filter from inside out. Rinse the green foam filter liner. Take out the plugs and see if they are fowled. Clean or replace them ($2.00 ea.) and make sure the plug wires are on good. Push and pull the choke cable and peek inside the carb to see that it is opening and closing correctly. Inspect the fuel lines backwards from the carb to the fuel block filter. Make sure the lines aren't kinked or cracked. If the gas is old or moisture could have gotten in, fill it with new or use one of the additives to get rid of moisture. ....
